The Frantic Video – Blackout Brigade

This is a long one, I apologize. Too much goodness went on during this shoot. Cereal and watermelons were flying, body paint was used, and last but not least, there was jello wrestling. I mean, how often to do you get to experience jello wrestling… especially in an apartment in Wrigleyville?

First of all, credit for this amazing video goes to Kyle Cogan, director of the video…. if you watch JBTV, you might recognize his name from the credits. He’s pretty great.

Oh, and while I’m at it, I have to give a shoutout to Kyle Dee, singer of The Frantic, for learning the words to “Blackout Brigade” backwards. It sounded as if he were speaking in demonic tongues, but I’m sure it’ll look great in the video.

Basically, this shoot was filled with great people. A ton of local musicians came out to support and lend their face/body, as well as oodles of local music fans. It was teamwork at it’s finest.

And, to wrap it up… if you’re in Chicago, head out to The Frantic’s CD release show at Subterranean tomorrow, Saturday, April 2nd. You should pick up a CD while you’re there too…not only will it be awesome, but I might have had a hand in some of the photos.

Preview: The Frantic Video Shoot

The Frantic started filming their music video for “Blackout Brigade” today with the awesome Kyle Cogan. Kyle graciously let me come shoot some stills for a while (music video behind-the-scenes is one of my favorite things to shoot), and it was insane. I was only there for about 4 1/2 hours, but I am surprised my equipment and I escaped unharmed. It was the perfect setting for a Frantic video. Here’s a few photos until I can go through the rest of them…

JBTV wins an Emmy… and celebrates

The Fireship @ Angels & Kings
The Fireship

If you follow my blog, you’ve seen several concerts that have been shot at the JBTV studio. The people, the studio, and the TV show are at the top of my list of favorite people, places, and shows. In short, they’re amazing. They deserve every good thing that comes their way.

Well, speaking of good things, it’s been a great couple of weeks for the JBTV crew. Not only did they win an Emmy for their motion graphics, but they were also picked up by an NBC station (NBC 5.2), where they will air Saturdays at 9pm in addition to their WJYS airing every week at 11pm on Wednesdays.

Ryan Manno, host of JBTV, also hosts a show/event every Wednesday at the venue Angels & Kings called “The One Manno Show.” This week was declared a JBTV celebration week. Well, we had to go, despite the piles of work I have to do. And I’m so glad we did. It was truly a party. I love how much the Chicago music scene is one big family…. everywhere we turned, it was hugs, and another familiar face.

So, this is a post both to brag about how cool JBTV is and to show some pictures, and a sneak peek. I will be posting full sets as soon as I can from each band that played.

JBTV/Goldmill Summer Party

JBTV/Goldmill Summer Party

The fantastic (and maybe crazy?) Christian and Britton Picciolini opened their home to their musical family – people from JBTV, bands that Christian manages through Goldmill, and a random assortment of others that somehow fit into the mix (me included!).

They had one of these parties last summer, and we weren’t able to attend, so the second that Christian sent out the save-the-date email, I marked it on my calendar, swearing off all other activities for that date, no matter what. Luckily, it worked out, because it was a fantastic time. I mean, there was a 112 lb. roast pig, ladder ball/bags/badminton/volleyball, friends, campfires, sing alongs, smores, etc… what else could anyone possibly want?

As a side note, I know I haven’t been posting on this blog much lately… there will be blogs forthcoming. It’s wedding season right now, so my energy is devoted to that, but there are great things coming (Company of Thieves and Ludo come to mind…).

And, as a special bonus, a video of one of my favorite parts of the night. Please excuse the less than stellar framing – with the light quality, I needed to set the camera down on a flat surface, so I had limited composition options.
